Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening
- Preparation needed: For best results we request that you do not eat 4 hours prior to the screening. Please take all your recommended medications as normal with a small amount of water. If you are diabetic please bring a snack or beverage to eat or drink after the screening is completed.
- Participant will lie on their back on an exam table.
- Ultrasound gel is applied to the abdomen and the ultrasound transducer (wand) is moved from high in the abdomen to the level of the belly button painlessly over the area to acquire images.
- Screening time 5-10 minutes.
- Please wear a loose fitting shirt or blouse that is easy to pull up.
- Please do not wear dresses.
Carotid Artery Disease (Stroke) screening
- No preparation needed.
- Participant will lie on their back on an exam table.
- Ultrasound gel is applied to the neck and the ultrasound transducer (wand) is moved painlessly over the area to acquire images and assess blood flow on each side of the neck.
- Screening time 5-10 minutes.
- Please wear a shirt or blouse with a loose fitting collar.
- Please do not wear necklaces or turtlenecks.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screening
- No preparation needed.
- Participant will need to remove shoes and socks.
- Participant will lie on their back on an exam table.
- Blood pressure cuffs will be placed around both arms (unless otherwise indicated) and both ankles. Ultrasound gel is placed on the arms and ankles and a small transducer is used to listen to the blood flow and measure the blood pressures. A mathematic calculation of these pressures will suggest the presence or absence of PAD.
- Screening time 5-10 minutes.
